Reformer Pilates

Reformer Pilates and/or Jumpboard (which is also a reformer pilates class on the schedule) is the Pilates method of movement done on a reformer (which is the most well-known piece of Pilates equipment). The reformer is an apparatus designed with a system of springs and pulleys that allows an exercise to become more accessible or more challenging based on the choice of setup. The closed-chain setup allows for a deeper proprioception of the body. The "long lean" muscles that Pilates is known for can be attributed to the full range of movement and load on the muscle that the reformer creates. Pilates offers a safe ability to work the muscle in and out of its most lengthened state. One can expect to leave the Pilates Reformer class feeling challenged, stronger, refreshed, lengthened and more balanced. This FUN class is for all ages and abilities! As always the instructor will offer advancements and modifications to suit all levels and abilities of the students in any given class.
GYROTONIC®

The Gyrotonic Method utilizes specialized equipment to guide, assist and challenge the exerciser.. In this class we will be using the Gyrotonic Pulley Tower and Handle Unit. Gyrotonic classes are designed to take the body beyond its current limitations. People come out of a Gyrotonic class with increased freedom of movement, greater strength and more agility. Gyrotonic exercises are adapted to fit anyone’s ability, from those recovering from injury or living with a disability to elite athletes. The Gyrotonic Method is an original and unique movement method that addresses the entire person by opening energy pathways, stimulating the nervous system, increasing range of motion, and improving strength and movement efficiency. With Gyrotonic exercises, each movement flows into the next, allowing the joints to move through a natural range of motion without jarring or compression. These carefully crafted sequences create balance, efficiency, strength and flexibility. (A minimum of at least 1-3 private lessons before taking a group class is HIGHLY recommended!)
Aqualates

Use the resistance of water to increase functional range of motion, strength, cardiovascular health and flexibility. This is a great workout for all ages and abilities! Aqualates (pronounced- Aqua-lot-ees)- is pilates based programming but in the pool! We will focus on dynamic core strength, functional range of motion as well as breath work to name a few of the many benefits! It's a fun overall full-body strength, cardio and mobility class for all ages and abilities! As always the instructor will offer advancements and modifications to suit all levels and abilities of the students in any given class.
SUP Pilates

Looking for a little variation in your fitness routine? Grab an oversized board and try your best to keep your balance during a core-burning stand-up paddle boarding class, otherwise known as SUP Pilates. Taught and run by Ashley Burnett, NSG&P's SUP classes are a fun challenge for those looking to up their fitness, while taking advantage of Hawaii's endless summers. Taking place in a beautiful private pool, the SUP Pilates schedule includes high energy HIIT, toning mat pilates and flowing aqualates movements. Come enjoy the motion of the ocean in the pool using our stand up paddle board mats, therabands, magic circles, ankle weights, hand weights, etc.! No class is ever the same and most of the class is performed on the board but bring a towel (because you might get wet!), wear a long sleeve rash guard to shield your body from the sun (We don't recommend slippery sunscreen) and comfortable shorts/yoga pants. As always, bring water to stay hydrated.
Why is SUP such a good workout?
The constant wobble means your body is articulating the smaller and larger muscle groups in order to stay balanced. So your muscles are constantly stabilizing and working. Plus the exercises, coordination and ultimate core control means this workout is a total mind, body and soul rejuvenation unlike anything you’ve tried before.
Which muscles will feel the burn?

With the wobble of the board it demands constant balance and engagement from the small muscle groups as well as the larger muscle groups working as a team. Anywhere from the tiny stabilization muscles around your knees, ankles and shoulders to your thighs, glutes and especially core are all fired up and working together to perform even the simplest of movements.

Who should try SUP?

It is a fantastic workout for both men and women. Anyone of any ability is welcome to try as we give modifications throughout. It is quite a core focused workout—you can do it with your friends in the sunshine! It is an amazing and super splashy, fun and unlike anything you've ever tried before. It is about challenging your brain synapses, motor neurons, balance, coordination, and muscles as well as fitness so it is a universal workout.

What physical results can we expect from SUP classes?

Physically, SUP will tone, strengthen and bring more awareness to the whole body. With the wobble of the board the small and larger muscle groups are utilized (especially legs and core), however mentally I think the results happen too. Imagine, you have the glorious morning sunshine, vitamin D, permission to splash and be around water, happy tunes, and fun and adventurous exercises. My passion and my real drive with my business is to encourage that fitness should be fun and with a sense of play. A special, personal and a memorable experience for all. I always encourage my clients to really breathe, smile and to let go and have fun for that one hour. Forget deadlines, feel like a kid again. And I really do believe they go into their day feeling more positive and sparkly.
